1st Whitnash Scout Group – looking for new recruits!

1st Whitnash Scout Group

The 1st Whitnash Scouts is a successful group within the town, having awarded 4 Chief Scouts Gold Awards in the last 6 months. In the last Warwickshire Scout competition camp, our teams came 1st and 2nd.

We championed the use of LED street lighting rather than sodium, and presented to Whitnash Town Council. Cllr Bernard Kirton raised this with Warwickshire County Council, who then took it to central Government to seek extra funding to convert the whole County, with massive savings possible.

Our activities include 2 or 3 camps a year (featuring archery, air rifle shooting, climbing, abseiling etc.) Our Scouts have learned DIY skills such as changing tap and cistern washers, painting, and bike maintenance. We have even stripped and rebuilt a computer!!

1st Whitnash had a large input of recruits 4 years ago, and 10 of these have now reached the age of 14, and moved on to Explorers. Therefore, we now have vacancies for girls and boys, between 10.5 and 14 years of age, who wish to join in the adventure.

The Group meets on Tuesday evenings 7.30 – 9pm at the Methodist Church Hall. For details of how to join, please contact the Scout leader, John McMahon, telephone 01926 775942, or email: first.whitnash@ntlworld.com

The Impact of Care-giving on Loneliness and Isolation

In partnership with Public Health Warwickshire, Age UK Warwickshire is undertaking a countywide study into the unmet needs of carers, specifically those who are experiencing social isolation and loneliness as a direct result of their care-giving role.  They aim to involve carers fully in the study by ascertaining their needs, via group sessions and individual interviews, with the intention to inform our Public Health partners of any gaps in provision, which can then influence the design of future services.

Attached is a leaflet, and a copy of their invitation, which explains in a little more detail about the study.

If you, or anyone you know would like to be involved in the study, or if you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact Alice Maher at Age UK Warwickshire, Tel 01788 552 545      Email: Research@ageukwarks.org.uk
