Notice of road resurfacing works and road closures – Whitnash Road and Murcott Road East

Please be aware that Warwickshire County Council have served notice of their intention to carry out road resurfacing on Whitnash Road and Murcott Road East, which is likely to take place during August.

This will affect Whitnash Road, from the junction of Golf Lane to the junction with Murcott Road East (by The Plough), and on Murcott Road East, between the junctions of Whitnash Road and Coppice Road.

These sections of road have been highlighted as being in need of repair (along with several others) by Whitnash Town Council, and Warwickshire County Council have agreed to carry out these specific works.

Please see attached files for details of the Order from the County Council, maps showing the diversion routes that will be in operation during the road closures, and a schedule of the work that is planned.

Road and footpath improvements

You may have noticed that some improvements to footpaths and roads in the town have commenced. Many footpaths and roads have had no resurfacing or surface dressing for many years, leaving them in a poor condition. Recently however, the Town Council has managed to get some of these essential repairs onto the 'to do' list of Warwickshire County Council, and a few have already begun or been completed.

Morse Road recently benefitted from surface dressing, whilst footpaths along parts of Murcott Road East and Mollington Road have had surface repairs and slurry sealing. Now the very broken footpaths along Franklin Road up to the Moorhill Road junction are being dug up and completely reconstructed.
Several other roads and footpaths around the town are due for some similar attention over the coming months, so watch this space, and please bear with us whilst the works are carried out.

Any significant road closures will be announced in advance where possible.

Travellers at Washbourne Fields

Late yesterday (7th April 2017) evening a group of travellers arrived at the above location and have moved on to the recreational area. We believe they illegally forced entry to the site.

At present the group consists of 9 caravans and a similar number of trucks and cars. The group were initially visited at 0900hrs this morning by the local SNT and code of conduct leaflets issued, reminding them of the need to respect the area, keep their dogs tied up and generally behaving by the same standards of the settled community.

We are very much aware of the concern that this will generate amongst Whitnash residents and whilst Whitnash Town Council, Warwick District Council and Warwickshire Police work together to have them removed, please be assured of an increased police presence in the area.

Whitnash Town Council, as the land owner, will have to go through a legal process to have them evicted, unfortunately this will take some time as it is more difficult than for a private land owner.

If there are any incidents related to the travellers or the encampment, then please phone the police on 101.
