Blood donation session, Tuesday 26th November

25th November 2019

Whitnash Town Council has received the following email from the NHS Blood & Transfusion service regarding a blood donation session at the Sikh Temple, Tachbrook Park Drive, on Tuesday 26th November.

If you are interested to find out more, or to book an appointment to make a blood donation, please read on.

“Subject: Supporting Blood Donation in Leamington.

Good Afternoon,

I am writing from NHS Blood and Transplant and wondering if you were able to assist me in promoting our blood donation session tomorrow in Gurdwara Sahib, Leamington & Warwick. We have lots of availability for appointments due to a last minute relocation of the session and would appreciate any support you can offer. Please feel free to share the attached poster around your organisation in staff rooms or public spaces.

Any support that you can provide would be brilliant and you would be supporting a fantastic cause. NHS Blood and Transplant consistently needs new donors to sign up and book appointments to give blood in order to meet the demand for blood by hospitals. We need new blood donors from all backgrounds to ensure there is the right blood available for patients who need it.

We need:

Nearly 400 new donors a day to meet demand
Around 135,000 new donors a year to replace those who can no longer donate
40,000 more black donors to meet growing demand for better-matched blood
30,000 new donors with priority blood types such as O negative every year
More young people to start giving blood so we can make sure we have enough blood in the future

It takes around 7-10 minutes to donate a pint of blood, with the whole appointment likely to be between 45 minutes to an hour. In donating a pint of blood you can help to save and improve the lives of up to 3 adults or 6 children.
