Further to the public consultation in February 2018 when those who responded gave a large majority vote for the future Community Hub, we have now been successful in obtaining planning permission and have been working with our architects to finalise the design etc. Also, we have appointed Quantity Surveyors who have priced the project more accurately.
Unfortunately, even after value engineering the cost is now nearer £2m as opposed to the original estimate of £1.6m. However, Warwick District Council are considering granting us a further amount on top of the half a million pounds already set aside. We will also need to contribute more as a Town Council and therefore we are asking your approval once again to increase the council tax to raise £250,000. This would mean an extra £4.95 per band D property per year over 25 years.
We believe this will provide a facility to be proud of for our children and grand children’s future and bring the services including the library, council offices, cafeteria and sports hall / conference room closer to the centre of Whitnash at the same time improving the parking and facilities in Acre Close Playing Field and provide opportunities for residents to visit the Hub when they come to shop.
We now need your feedback on this increase in YOUR council tax to enable the project to go ahead. That is why the deadline for returning this survey to Whitnash Town Council, Franklin Road, Whitnash CV31 2JH is Thursday, 20th December 2018.
